'For The First Time' Lyrics

"For The First Time"

She's all laid up in bed with a broken heart,
While I'm drinking jack all alone in my local bar,
And we don't know how,
How we got into this mad situation,
Only doing things out of frustration

Trying to make it work but man these times are hard,

She needs me now but I can't seem to find the time,
I've got a new job now on the unemployment line,
And we don't know how,
How we got into this mess
Is it god's test?
Someone help us 'cause we're doing our best,

Trying to make it work but man these times are hard

But we're gonna start by
Drinking old cheap bottles of wine,
Sit talking up all night,
Saying things we haven't for a while
A while, yeah
We're smiling but we're close to tears,
Even after all these years,
We just now got the feeling that we're meeting for the first time

[x3]
Oooooo

She's in line at the DOLE*
With her head held high (high)
While I just lost my job but
Didn't lose my pride

But we both know how,
How we're gonna make it work when it hurts,
When you pick yourself up,
You get kicked to the dirt,

Trying to make it work but,
Man these times are hard,

But we're gonna start by,
Drinking old cheap bottles of wine,
Sit talking up all night,

Doing things we haven't for a while,
A while yeah,
We're smiling but we're close to tears,
Even after all these years,
We just now got the feeling that we're meeting for the first time.

Ooooo
[x3]

Yeah.....
Drinking old cheap bottles of wine,
Sit talking up all night,
Saying things we haven't for a while,
We're smiling but we're close to tears,
Even after all these years,
We just now got the feeling that we're meeting, for the first time

ooooo...., yeah for the first time
(ooooo....), oh for the first time,
Yeah for the first time,
(just now got the feeling that we're meeting...
For the first time)

[x4]
Oh these times are hard,
Yeah they're making us crazy
Don't give up on me baby

Final Draft for Magazine Advert

Final Draft - Magazine Advert

I have created my final magazine advert below. I have incorporated the best components of my previous drafts to create the final design. I have decided to follow all of the conventions, which includes the logo at the top of the page, an image of the band and tour dates and numbers on the bottom of the page. I have also incorporated the features that I felt made the sites more appealing to the audience. This includes the use of contrasting colours, to make the page stand out more. I have also incorporated the use of 'Uk Tour' to show the audience where the tour will be taking place.

Drafts for Magazine advert

Magazine Advert Design 1

This is my first design for the magazine advert. I have used the codes and conventions discovered through the research I undertook previously. For example the 'Jessie J' and 'Example' adverts have placed the logo in the middle of the page. The 'Example' advert has placed the image of the artist on the top half of the page, just above the logo. I have followed the same design in the draft to the left. The image will have the main singer at the front of the group and the two other members behind him. This is a common layout for a band, which will further increase the connection between the magazine advert and the genre.  In the 'Green Day' and 'Example' adverts they have included a 'guest star' to the tour. I have followed this in my design in order to follow the convention and relate my product with the genre. I am using a black and white colour scheme in order to relate to the website that I will create. The colours also contrast with each other, which means that the text and images will stand out more. The date, location and time of the tour has been included, the same as the design on the 'Example' advert.

This is my second design for the magazine advert. I have used the research on existing magazine adverts in order to create adverts that follow the codes and conventions. The image of the band will be at the top of the page, similar to the 'Green Day' advert. The band members will be posing in different ways, which will make each one stand out more. The logo of the band is behind the image of the band. The reason that I designed it in this way, is because I feel it makes it look eye-catching. The audience that are fans will also be able to recognises the logo, even if only part of it can be seen. The name of the tour is just above the tour dates. The name of the tour is similar to the name of the single that we are focusing on. This advertises the tour but also the album/single. The idea for this comes from the 'Green Day' and 'Example' magazine adverts. The tour dates take up the majority of the page, which makes them the focal point of the image for the audience. At the bottom of the page, similar to 'Example's' advert, I have included the information of where to purchase the tickets and some advertisement on the album and website.I am using a black and white colour scheme in order to relate to the website that I will create. The colours also contrast with each other, which means that the text and images will stand out more.

Magazine Advert Design 3

This is the third design for the magazine advert. I have incorporated the codes and conventions learnt through the research that I undertook on existing magazine adverts. The logo of the band will span the full width of the top of the page, this will make the page stand out to the audience. It also means that if part of the poster is covered, the audience will still be able to know who the poster is for, as they can recognise part of the logo. Just below the logo is the band shot. I have used a similar style as the one used above, with each member posing differently. The difference in this image is, that the images will overlap slightly, with a slight lower opacity across the whole image. I have used a similar style to the 'Example' advert for the tour dates. This is so that the advert will look professional and be more appealing to the audience. I am using a black and white colour scheme in order to relate to the website that I will create. The colours also contrast with each other, which means that the text and images will stand out more.

Research - Evaluation of Magazine Advert 4

Magazine Advert - Green Day

This is a magazine advert for the artist 'Green Day.' It is intended to advertise the new tour from 'Green Day' to the audience. When evaluating the magazine advert I will be looking for what features make it appealing to the audience, and what conventions are associated with a magazine advert.  I am now going to go through each feature and convention and why I feel it makes the advert more appealing to the audience:

- At the top of the page is the logo of of the band. By placing it at the top of the page, they have made the page more attractive to the audience. It also means that, if part of the magazine advert is hidden, the audience will be able to tell who the advert is about.

- The image of the band has been placed just below the logo. They have got the three members standing close together, with the main singer standing at the front, and the other two behind him. They have used a effect that makes the image black and white, and the shadows stand out more.

- They have followed the convention of a guest star at the tour. They have included the logo of the guest band, and the image of the bands just below the the logo. The guest bands image is smaller then the main bands image, so that it does not take the audiences attention from the main members.

- It states that it is a 'Europe Tour.' They have used the same font as the style used by the logo. This makes the magazine advert flow and not be to overwhelming for the audience.

- The majority of the advert is taken up by the list of tour dates and locations. They have used a similar font style to the style used by the logo. They have included the dates of the tour and next to them, are the locations of the tour.

- In the background is the same design as the one used on the CD cover. This makes the advert look attractive and appealing to the audience that are fans. It also creates a connection between the advert and CD, which will encourage the audience to purchase the CD.

Magazine Advert - Jessie J

This is a magazine advert for the artist 'Jessie J.' It is intended to advertise the new album from 'Jessie J' to the audience. When evaluating the magazine advert I will be looking for what features make it appealing to the audience, and what conventions are associated with a magazine advert. The above shows the two adverts  In the image above I have highlighted the features of the magazine advert that have made it attractive to the audience. I am now going to go through each feature and convention the and why I feel it makes the advert more appealing to the audience:

- The image of the artist takes up half of the page, which appeals to the audience that are fans.

- The name of the artist uses a large bold font, which has made it stand out and attract the audience. The name has taken up the majority of the middle of the page, which makes it very eye-catching.

- The name of the album is just below the logo/name. They have used the same font style as the one used for the name of the artist. This is the second largest font, after the name of the artist.

- The designer has included a list of the albums most popular songs, which should appeal to the audience and encourage them to purchase the album.

- The colour scheme for the magazine advert is black and white. These colours contrast with each other, which makes them stand out to the audience. As the colours contrast with each other, the text and images are more eye-catching and encourage the audience to look at the magazine advert.

- At the bottom of the page is the contact information and the web address of the artists website. This encourages the audience to go to the website, which will further encourage the audience to purchase the album.

Magazine Advert - Example

This is a magazine advert for the artist 'Example.' It is intended to advertise the new tour from 'Example' to the audience. When evaluating the magazine advert I will be looking for what features make it appealing to the audience, and what conventions are associated with a magazine advert. In the image above I have highlighted the features of the magazine advert that have made it attractive to the audience. I am now going to go through each feature and convention the and why I feel it makes the advert more appealing to the audience:

- The main colour scheme is black, white and yellow. They use red to make the new important information stand out. These colours contrast with each other, which means that the font style, images and logos stand out more. This means that the magazine advert is more appealing to the audience.

- At the top of the page is the image of the artist. The image of the artist takes up 1/4 of the page, which makes it look attractive. The artist is looking directly at the audience, which creates a connection between the two and encourages the audience to look at the advert.

- The artists logo is the largest font on the page, which makes it stand out. By making the logo stand out, it is more eye-catching to the audience that are fans.

- A convention I have found on some of the magazine adverts is the 'guest star.' This is were they have advertised that there is going to be a guest artist on the tour, which will attract the audience even further.

- The tour information consists of the dates, locations and the phone number of the location. This is a code and convention for the magazine adverts, and something I must include in my designs.

- At the bottom of the page is some basic contact information that gives the audience information of how to purchase the tickets. The information also advertises the artists new album and single.

Magazine Advert - Plan B

This is a magazine advert for the artist 'Plan B.' It is intended to advertise the new album from 'Plan B' to the audience.

- The name of the artist is on the top of the page. They have used a large bold font, which has made it stand out and attract the audience. The name has taken up the majority of the top of the page, which makes it very eye-catching.

- The name of the album is just below the logo/name. They have used the same font style as the one used for the name of the artist. This is the second largest font, after the name of the artist.

- Just below the name of the album are the ratings from the different newspapers. This makes it very appealing to the audience and encourages the audience to purchase the CD.

- The majority of the magazine advert is taken up by the image of the artist. They have used a mid shot, slighting high angle shot. The artist is looking of into the distance, which is very eye-catching to the audience, as it makes the audience wonder what he is looking at. The artist is also in black and white, which makes it look more dramatic and the shadows stand out more.

- There is also the image of the album, to make the advert more attractive and encourage the audience to purchase the album.

Research - Drafts for Websites

Design draft 1 - Website

This is the first design for my website. I have used the research that I undertook when evaluating the existing websites, and used the features and codes and conventions that I found to create this design. I have put the logo at the top of the page, following the code I found on the other pages. One feature that I really liked from my research, was the use of a slideshow at the top of the page. I think that it would make my site very appealing to the audience and encourage them to stay on the site. The colour of the website is going to be black and white, the same as the colours going to be used in the video. These colours also contrast with each other, which makes them stand out. I followed the other codes and conventions of existing band website by incorporating an 'Important News' section, a 'Tour dates,' 'Legal Information' at the bottom and a 'Photo of the album.' By including these common features, it will make it obvious to the audience, that my site belongs to a band.

    Design draft 2 - Website

This is my second design that I created for my website. I have used the knowledge that I had gathered from my evaluations of existing websites, and used them in order to create the website design to the left. I have used the logo at the top of the page, but altered it to create a banner. It will have a background design that will be similar to the designs used on my magazine advert. The button links are going to be unique, through the use of shapes and colours, which will make the site stand out more. I have incorporated all of the key features of the magazine. Including the 'Tour dates,' 'Important news,' 'Twitter section,' 'Legal information' and a 'Image of the newest album.' The colour of the website is going to be black and white, the same as the colours going to be used in the video. These colours also contrast with each other, which makes them stand out.

     Design draft 3 - Website

This is my third and final design draft that I have created for my website. I have decided that I would use the design of the album created by one my group as the banner for my website. This will make the site look attractive and relate all of the ancillary tasks together. I have also used the logo for the band on the top of the page, which follows the convention of the sites. The colour of the website is going to be black and white, the same as the colours going to be used in the video. These colours also contrast with each other, which makes them stand out. I have used the vital components to create a band website in my design. Including the 'Tour dates,' 'Important news,' 'Twitter section,' 'Legal information' and a 'Image of the newest album.'

Research - Evaluation of Website 3

Website - Maroon 5

This is the home page for the website that advertises the band 'Marron 5.' When evaluating the webpages I am looking for what has made them stand out to me, what features I like about the design of the pages. I am also looking for the codes and conventions that are followed on each webpage, what codes and conventions make a website belong to a band. In the images above, I have highlighted the main components of the webpages and the features that I felt made the page look attractive. I am now going to go through each feature and why I like it:

- The banner uses the design that has been used on the album. The design is vibrant and appealing to the audience. This makes the web page look attractive and and helps to relate the page to the album, which in turn helps to advertise the album.

- The menu bar is a feature that is used on many websites. Each one is different, which makes them unique and stand out. I am going to use different layouts, shapes and colours for my menu bar.

- Putting the lastest music video on the page makes it look intriguing and has encourages the audience to look at the video. Which in turn could influence them to purchase the song on iTunes, spotify etc. I really like the use of the video on the page, I am going to include the video on my site in some way.

- I found that the use of a twitter section has been used on the previous web page and this page. This makes it appeal to the audience that uses social networks, increasing the news and popularity of the band.

- 'Important news' is one of the vital parts of the site. It has been used on many of the other sites I have look at. By incorporating 'Important News,' it will be intriguing the audience to look and use the site. The image of the newest album is included on the page. By including the image of the album on the page, it makes the page look attractive and influences the audience to purchase the album.

- Another important feautre of the site are the tour dates. These are included on the page to incourage the audience to go and see the band. It also makes the page look attractive and appeals to the audience that are fans. It seems to be a convention used on many of the sites, which is why I will need to incorporate it in my site.

Research - Evaluation of Website 2

Website - One Direction

This is the home page for the website that advertises the band 'One Direction.' When evaluating the webpages I am looking for what has made them stand out to me, what features I like about the design of the pages. I am also looking for the codes and conventions that are followed on each webpage, what codes and conventions make a website belong to a band. In the images above, I have highlighted the main components of the webpages and the features that I felt made the page look attractive. I am now going to go through each feature and why I like it:

- The first feature that is used on this page is the logo. The logo helps to relate the web page with the band 'One Direction.' The logo is a sign to the audience fans of the band, and so it will appeal to them and encourage them to use the site.

- The menu bar is a feature that is used on many websites. However, each one differs, which makes them unique and stand out. I am going to make the menu bar on my page unique, by using different layouts, shapes and colours.

- I like the banner that has been used on the site. The banner includes a colourful vibrant image of the band, which makes the page look attractive to the audience. This image uses gaze theory to encourage the audience to look at the page and look throught the website.

- Putting the lastest music video on the top of the page has made the whole page look intriguing and has encouraged the audience to look at the video.

- 'Important news' is a vital part of the site. It has been used on many of the other sites I have look at. By incorporating 'Important News,' it will intriguing the audience to look and use the site.

- The image of the newest album is included on the page.

Research - Evaluation of website 1

The ancillary task was to chose between creating a website, promotion package or a magazine advert for our band. After careful consideration I have chosen to create a website and a magazine advert.

Website - The Script

http://www.thescriptmusic.com/gb/home

This is the home page for the website that advertises the band 'The Script.' When evaluating the webpages I am looking for what has made them stand out to me, what features I like about the design of the pages. I am also looking for the codes and conventions that are followed on each webpage, what codes and conventions make a website belong to a band. In the images above, I have highlighted the main components of the webpages and the features that I felt made the page look attractive. I am now going to go through each feature and why I like it:

- The first feature that I found was the bands logo. The use of the bands logo on the top of the page is used on several other webpages I have looked at. The logo makes it easy for the audience to identify who the website is about. It is also attractive and appeals to the audience that are fans, which encourages them to carry on using the site.

- The next feature that I liked was the menu bar. Although this is used on all sites, I wanted to comment on it. The menu bar makes it easy for the audience to navigate the site, and the if the site is easy for the audience to use, then they are less likely to get frustrated and leave the site.

- A feature of the site that I found really intriguing was the slideshow. The slideshow starts as soon as the audience opens the webpage, which makes the page look attractive straight away. The slideshow is not a common feature to use at the top of the page, which is why I find it interesting. It uses vibrant images and all are relevant to the band. I think that the use of a slideshow would make my webpage look extremely attractive.

- The site is made up of two columns. This allows the split the information and makes it easy for the audience to navigate the information, and makes it easy to understand the information given to the audience.

- There are several components, or key bits of information given to the audience that have been used on many of the sites. These include 'Important news' of the band, which is something that audience fans will find intriguing. An image of the most recent album is also included on the home page of the webpage. The image of the CD cover will mean using the ancillary task of one of my groups, which will make the site more realistic and make all of the products produced link with each other further.

- Tour dates are something that I have found on several of the sites I have looked at. The use of tour dates make the site look more attractive, and I find that it makes the site more intriguing to audience. This is a feature that I am going to include on my site.

- The last component found on the site is the legal information, which is also at the bottom of the page. This is some basic information and will be something that I must include on my site.

Final Logo Design

In order to create the final logo design the group and I worked together, looking over the initial designs and finding one design we liked, and then improving it. Below is the final logo that the group created together:

We have used a font style 'Courier New.' This style looks like the font used on play scripts (Image 1). This fonts means that it reflects the script used in plays, but also reflects the band 'The Script.' This connection makes the logo more attractive and intriguing to the audience. The font is also in a bold font for 'Script.' This make the logo stand out and look more appealing. The 'the' is not in a bold font, and is in a smaller font, which means that the 'Script' will stand out more in the logo. We have also included the name of the song that we are focusing on in the video. The font style that we have used for this is 'Mistral.' This style looks like 'handwriting,' which makes the logo more appealing to the audience.

This is an example of a play script.

Logo designs

These are the first designs of my logo. I created these initial designs, after looking at the logos that are used by existing Alternative Rock Bands. I have used three main designs for the logos. The first is the use of large bold font, which makes it appealing and eye-catching. The second design is the use of a calligraphy design, which makes the logo more attractive. The third and final design is the use of a script font, which makes the logo intriguing and stand out. This design also reflects script and relates the name of the band 'The Script' to the physical 'Script.'

These are the initial designs for the logo:

Features that have influenced my logo designs

There are several features that I have found that I like from the existing logos. The majority of features that will influence my designs are the codes and conventions, that I found run through out each of the logos.

- The first convention that I noticed was the use of the large bold font. This is something that has been followed by each of the logos. The large bold font makes the logos stand out more and more eye-catching.

- Although the fonts are always large and bold, the style of each logo is different. Each style is unique to each band. Which is something I must take into consideration when creating my designs.

- The use of black and white seems to be a code that is followed by each of the logos. The two colours do contrast with each other and make the logo more eye-catching. This is some I will remember when creating my designs.

- I like the use of the 'Splashed paint' and 'Colouring in' for the logos. This makes them more appealing to the audience, I will consider using something similar when creating my logos.

Evaluating Exisiting Logos

In order to create a professional and eye-catching logo, I have evaluated the attractive features of the logo and the codes and conventions that the logos follow to associate it with 'Alternative Rock.' Below are the logos that I have evaluated.

This is the 'Green day' logo. This logo uses a large bold font style to make it stand out to the audience. They use black and white as the colour scheme for the entire logo. These colours contrast with eachother, which means that it stands out more and looks more appealing. They have used a slight splashed paint effect on the letters, to make them stand out form other logos.

This logo is for the band 'All Time Low.' The logo uses a colour scheme that consists of only black and white. As in the previous logo, these colours have been used because they contrast with each other, which makes the overall logo more eye-catching. They have used a san serif style, with large bold font to stand out. Small graphics around the text, makes it more attractive. The effect used makes the logo look as if it has been coloured in with a pen, this makes the logo more appealing and unique to that band.

This logo belongs to the band 'Coldplay.' They have used a san serif font style, which makes it look modern to the audience. By making the font large and bold, it also stands out more and is more eye-catching to the audience. The font is made more appealing through the use of black and white. These colours contrast with each other, which means that they reflect of each other and stand out more.

This is the logo for the band 'The Script.' They have used large bold font for 'Script' and smaller thin font for 'the.' This makes it stand out more as the two styles contrast with each other. The style that has been used is unique to 'The Script,' which is why the audience relates the logo to the band so easily, even if part of the logo is covered. The colour of black and white stands out due to the contrast between them.
